When I think about the fragrance of prayer, I think about an aged mother in our church years ago, I caught her always praying. From the time she walked into any of our services, she would walk the floors praying, anointing heads, and calling out the names of the families that were a part of our ministry.

Being young in ministry, I looked at her with bewilderment and with a lot of uncertainty. I can remember asking myself. How is it that she always comes in praying with the power of boldness? And, I often wondered; how did she know the affairs of the families that attended our local church. Even though I looked at her with uncertainty, I was assured, she was a prayer warrior and knew what she was doing in the Spirit.

As I grew in Christ, I desired that same power of prayer. That fragrance she carrier! I’m just as hopeful, a young lady will look at me one day and crave that same power I have in the Spirit.

Nonetheless, that aged mother’s fragrance after a while led to the altar to seek God’s face. After asking God for that same powerful prayer life, I could no longer just walk into service, sit down and wait for the traditional program to start. The power of her prayers moved me to pray for others sitting on the pew.
Today, I’m a recipient of her powerful prayers and the life she lived before many.

As Christians, we have to look at prayer as one of the main components of our life and church. Nothing happens if we don’t pray.

Research has proven that prayer is one of the most unfavorable and unattended services in most churches. If that’s the case, it’s clear why satan is rampant on earth. It’s also clear we’re not getting the results we need because of the attitude we have towards prayer.

Prayer cannot be something we place on the backburner and utilize it only in emergency cases. Prayer is our weapon; it’s the only thing that will defeat the adversary. It’s a tool we can use to petition God’s help in our desperate situation. And, we’ve all been in desperate situations.

In James 5:13-15 says, “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. [14] Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. [15] And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.[16] Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
God knows we’re going to encounter sickness in this life. However, he’s left us with specific instructions on what we should do to help one another.

In Jesus Name.

First, he asked a question, “Is anyone among you trouble?”

We have to first know that we are powerless with God. Therefore, we have to admit we get sick sometimes. I’m not just talking about a disease. I’m talking about mentally sick [worried, angry, unforgiveness, etc.] too. At that moment, we must follow the instructions to pray for one another through fervent prayer to get the desired results we’re expecting.

As you pray for someone, you’ll eventually need someone to pray for you. Prayer is for the church. It is for the unbeliever, but it’s also for the believer.

If we practice praying one for another, great and mighty things can happen in our church and our home. At some point, we’re going to need someone to pray for us.

Prayer puts an expectation on God’s word. If what we’re praying for doesn’t happen, we should be disappointed. Prayer can no longer be something we do as a formality. We have to go to the throne of grace boldly expecting help in the time of OUR need.

Next time, you go into prayer and nothing happens, be disappointed and tell God I was expecting something to happen. Make sure you’re praying, In Jesus Name! God said in I Corinthians 5:4 “So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present.” The Holy Spirit is your witness. God’s power is going to be in the presence when you’re praying.

Remain confident. Your prayer will enforce supernatural things to happen.
We’re God’s change agents!

Don’t forget! During your prayer time, take your anointing oil to anoint some things. Start with the doorposts of your house, rooms, windows, areas where there are visitors and quite a bit of traffic. In short, you want your home to be full of the fragrance of prayer. Upon entering your home, everyone will know it’s a dwelling place for God’s Spirit to remain.

Then, take your anointing oil, your prayer shawl, and your diffuser to your prayer closet to wroth demons and evil attacks against you. Make them flee. Also, use your prayer language because no one understands what you’re saying to God. Your language helps you to develop an intimacy with God in prayer, as well as cementing that fragrance you’re longing for.

Man, Oh Man, what a prayer fragrance. I can sense it in the Spirit now!

In addition, if you are really seeking God’s peace, your prayers can’t be microwaved. You have to prepare to set an atmosphere where God’s Spirit can come and dwell. It’s going to take time. It’s going to take a lot of practice. It’s going to take studying God’s word to see what He’s saying about your situation.

In conclusion, I know for certain like the mother of my local church years ago. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Proverbs 29:2.
