Are you a Christian that shares Jesus’s light everywhere you go? Or, Are you a shy Christian that’s afraid to openly express Jesus Christ with others? Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16a). He explained that no one lights a lamp just to hide it under a basket. A lamp is meant to be placed on a stand to give light to everything around it. Whether you’re shy or outgoing, you’re called to be a light to the people around you. The more time we spend with God; we’re learning how to live in the light of Jesus Christ. 

However, if we do not have a relationship with God, we are not going to live in that light. And anything we do will not flourish nor prosper.

Whether we’re shy or talkative, we’re called to be a light to the people around us.

It’s our responsibility to let our light shine before men. Upon seeing the light, it dispels darkness. Living in the light of Jesus Christ should not condemn others, but it should convict others to live right. With hopes of leading them to Christ.

Whenever unbelievers are in our presence, they should see the light of Jesus through our actions and the words that we speak. 

Our lives should exemplify the difference between light and darkness. It’s inevitable not to notice. That’s why God makes a distinction between light and darkness in the Book of Genesis. They both can’t be in the same place at the same time. 

Nonetheless, when I am sharing the goods news of Jesus Christ with unbelievers, I am always baffled by their answers when I ask them certain questions: Do you have a church home? What’s your pastor’s name? How would you describe your relationship with Christ, being saved and filled with the spirit? Finally, if you died today–(at this very moment), where would you spend eternity?

Initially, the array of answers usually is “I don’t go to church, but I know the Lord. I was saved at a young age and was baptized. I quit going to church, but I know the Lord. If I died today, I know that I’m going to heaven.”

Furthermore, they all say that Jesus loves them and He understands what their struggling with. 

As I live in the light of Jesus Christ, my objective is to share the good news because I never want anyone to leave my presence without knowing the truth. Also, I want to hold myself accountable as a Christian.  

Even though, that is a true statement–Yes! “Jesus loves them.” 

However, love has nothing to do with living in the light of Jesus Christ and having a relationship with Him. 

For example, my daughter met her Boaz so they decided to get married. Before getting to the point of marriage, their courtship days were spent discussing intimate matters of a healthy relationship. Simply put, they had to talk about some hard stuff. 

Afterwards.

They solidify a wedding day, they both continued to invest time in their relationship as they discussed the cost of the wedding, the honeymoon, places for the registry, a wedding planner, etc.

Equally important, who would they wanted to attend the wedding. They were not going to send invitations to strangers. They wanted to send an invitation to people they had established relationships with to share in their special occasion. 

The good news was being shared everywhere.

Above all, I couldn’t keep my daughter quiet about her wedding day; she was determined to spread the good news. And, she would be standing in line at the neighborhood grocery store or waiting for her party’s table to become available at her favorite restaurant. 

Moreover, she told everyone, even, if they didn’t want to hear it.

Come what may, she wasn’t shy!

Therefore, is it okay to say? We share what’s important to us, even if we are timid or outgoing. 

All things considered, living in the light of Jesus Christ is having a relationship with Him. The relationship you have with Jesus Christ determines how much you’re going to share the good news.

Keep in mind, we don’t share what we’re not concerned about.  

As we develop our relationship with Jesus Christ, we learn what’s important to Him, how we should live our lives, and where we’re are going to spend eternity. 

It’s impossible to be in a loving relationship with Jesus Christ and He never tells us about sin. It’s not His nature. 

Have you ever been around someone with bad breath and their breath was almost unbearable? If you have, you dare not tell them about their breath because of the relationship you have with them.

You may eventually, ramble around in your purse or pocket and find a piece of gum. Then, you ask them if they want a piece. With much delight, they say no!

On the other hand, if it’s your friend, you’re going to tell them without hesitation their breath is horrible. That’s because you have a relationship with them. 

Meanwhile, you’re just waiting until your time is up with that bad breather in hopes you will never meet them again.

See! A big part of our relationships is sharing, encouraging, correcting, and reproofing. 

By the same token, living in the light of Jesus Christ is not merely a pathway to more peace, faith, and joy. It’s a path to knowing that Jesus is The Way. The True. and The Light. And sharing that pathway with others.

In conclusion, for those of you struggling with your relationship with Jesus Christ, come to Jesus while you have time. Living in the light of Jesus Christ will be the decision you’ll ever make. 

Jesus didn’t die to save us from hell only. He died for us to be free from sin. Sinners live in darkness because there’s no guilt about how they’re living. They don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ because He would expose their sin. He’s a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

Proverbs 14:12: “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” What you think is the right road may lead to death.

The Bible defines sin as knowing to do right and not doing it. But a sinner cannot do what’s right in God’s eyes because they cannot know God. They have to repent first and ask God to come and fellowship with them.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Ephesians 5:8: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.

How can unbelievers live in the light of Jesus Christ? 

Fellowship with others that follow the light

First, you have to confess that you are a sinner walking in the darkness. God is faithful and just to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Ask God to connect you with other people that have a relationship with Him. Believers are of the light because they know the light—they know God. John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke out again, “I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Make an effort to spend time with people with whom they are going to hold you accountable. Be open to meeting with them at a coffee shop or a library. During these times, you’ll find yourself desiring more of God’s light. Also, their lifestyle will become the perfect example of who Jesus Christ is.

Spending time with God allows you to know the character of God and the abundant life He wants you to live. Make time to read God’s word so you can hear the instructions for your life. Living in the light of Jesus Christ

The Lord created you in His image. He wants you to live an abundant life so you can spread his light and joy to those around you that are struggling with darkness. Be the light to others and be willing to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Live the life God intended for you to live on earth glorifying His name. 

Those who walk in the light are disciples of Jesus Christ. “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” John 8:12. If we are true disciples, ones who follow Jesus in the light, then 1 John 1:7 will be our life!

Share your light with others in darkness

Do not be afraid to take the opportunity to speak the truth in love about Jesus to anyone. You never know what God will do through you. What you love, you’ll share. You have to be willing to share your faith and what God has done for you. Sometimes the only witness that others have is through our testimony. 

As Christians, we can be the light in the darkness by responding to unbelievers with truth and testifying about what God has done. Remember, it is not our responsibility to make people believe, but to share the truth boldly and without judgment. 

It can be a little fearful thinking about shining the light of Jesus for all to see. We can’t be fearful because lost souls are depending on us. Jesus proclaimed in Matthew 5 that His disciples were the light of the world. They were not to remain hidden. But shine as a city sitting upon a hill.

7 Top Scriptures About Walking in Darkness

John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

In the Gospel of John, Jesus uses a lot descriptive language and associates God with light as “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:4) and “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5) and He most certainly was. Jesus wants us to “Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light” (John 12:36).

Luke 1:79 “to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Jesus came to bring light into a dark, sin-stained world and that’s why He is often referred to as the light of the world (John 8:12). Those who were in darkness were sitting in darkness and the shadow of death was upon them but Jesus brought light “to guide our feet into the way of peace” but it cost Him His life.

John 12:46 “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”

This verse is very much like that in Luke chapter one and John chapter one. Jesus, being the light of the world, came into the world so that they would not need to stay in darkness but might be brought into the light, thereby receiving eternal life by repentance and faith. We must proclaim this light that is shed abroad in our own hearts and point them to the hope we have in Christ and this “hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us” (Rom 5:5).

Psalm 18:28 “For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.”

Light always overcomes the darkness (John 1:5). You can walk into most stores and buy a flashlight but I have never seen a flash dark. There is no such thing because darkness cannot overcome the light but light always overcomes the darkness just as “everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (1st John 5:4).

John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Since Jesus is God and Jesus is the light of the world, those who follow Him have their path illuminated and thus, all who follow Christ “will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” That allows those who follow Jesus to see the path they are taking and they’ll never stray from that path of righteousness if they are following Christ but the further away from Christ they go, the darker the path becomes and darker is more dangerous when you’re trying to see where you’re going.

First John 2:9 “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.”

Many people say that they are the children of God but still walk in darkness so if any say that they are in the light but hate their brother or sister, they’re still in darkness. You cannot say you love God but hate your brother or sister “For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness” (1st Thess 5:5) and being in the light, we won’t be doing works of darkness.

Ephesians 5:8 “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Paul wants his readers to reflect on how great a salvation we have in Christ. He said that once we were like those still sitting in darkness but that is history for those who have repented and trusted in Christ. Paul admonishes us to “walk as children of the light” because children of the light cannot fellowship with darkness.

Therefore, it’s our responsibility to learn how to live in the light of Jesus Christ.
